Close Is King: 3 Rules That Can Turn Your Trading Around

You don’t need twenty indicators. You need simplicity — and patience to let price do the talking.

Hey all,

I had a moment of self-reflection this week. I was making mistakes that I tell people not to make. I was drifting from proven trading principles which I had honed for 24 months into bad habits. Sometimes you just have to hard stop, then review. I quickly realised I had complicated things and went away from simplicity and the rules that I set in place. It was a quick tweak and instantly, my results changed.

Here’s the uncomfortable truth: most people lose money on charts not because they have too little information, but too much. They drown the signal in noise, then act on a feeling not rules.

Reading a chart should be dramatically simple. For the vast majority of decisions, you can strip almost everything away and lean on one thing: a single, well-respected horizontal level — and the discipline to wait for the candle to close before you act.

That’s it. That’s the whole game, most of the time. One level tells you whether an asset is strong or weak. And one rule — wait for the close — keeps you out of 90% of the traps that catch everyone else.

Below I’ll walk you through the three rules I come back to again and again, each with a real example. Get these three right and you’ll make calmer, clearer, better decisions than people staring at ten times the data.

Here are my 3 hard rules for successful trading

Rule 1 — Find One Core Horizontal, and Treat It Like a Data Piñata
